Abstract

The article discusses the refugee crisis along the Thai-Cambodian border in May 1980, when thousands of displaced Cambodians gathered at the Nong Chan Refugee Camp to receive rice distributed by UNICEF and the United Nations World Food Programme in response to severe food shortages in Cambodia. It explains the creation of the Landbridge relief initiative, developed by Cambodian camp commander Kong Siloah and British aid worker Robert Ashe, which enabled Cambodians to collect rice and rice seed.
