Abstract
This article examines the representation of dermatology topics in UWorld and AMBOSS question banks used by medical students preparing for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (Step 2CK) exams. It finds that dermatology questions constitute about 5% of total questions, with nearly half focusing on the top 10 most prevalent skin diseases in the USA, though a notable portion addresses rare conditions. Step 2CK question banks include a higher proportion of management-focused questions and more image-based content compared to Step 1. The study highlights significant variability in dermatology education across US medical schools and underscores the need for standardized curricula to better prepare students for diagnosing and managing common skin diseases encountered in clinical practice.
