Abstract

This article focuses on the relationship between the Indian educational system and neuropsychological evaluation among Indian Americans, emphasizing clinical and cultural considerations. It reviews existing literature to explore how educational backgrounds from India, which are diverse and influenced by factors such as language of instruction, school funding, location, curriculum type, and societal attitudes toward gender and literacy, affect cognitive performance after immigration to the United States. The review found no studies directly examining this relationship in Indian Americans, though research in India links higher educational attainment with better cognitive outcomes in attention, memory, language, and executive functioning, with gender and regional differences also playing a role. The findings highlight the importance for clinicians to consider these educational and cultural nuances when selecting neuropsychological tests and interpreting results for Indian American individuals.
