Abstract
The article reviews two major piano events: Le Piano Symphonique in Lucerne and the Liszt Utrecht Piano Competition. Le Piano Symphonique, held at the KKL Luzern Konzertsaal, featured performances by renowned pianists including Martha Argerich, Alexandre Kantorow, and Martina Meola, with highlights such as Kantorow's premiere of Anders Hillborg's commissioned work and a film collaboration by William Kentridge. The festival faced some cancellations due to illness but showcased a blend of traditional and contemporary repertoire, eliciting varied audience reactions. The Liszt Utrecht Piano Competition celebrated its 40th anniversary by emphasizing the legacy of Franz Liszt and Carl Maria von Weber, challenging pianists in solo, chamber, and transcribed works to demonstrate versatility, with Alexander Kashpurin winning the competition.
