Abstract
The article focuses on Marie Jeanneret, a Swiss nurse who poisoned patients with atropine and morphine at the Pension Desarzens in Geneva in 1868, resulting in at least six deaths over nine months. Jeanneret, born in 1836 and orphaned young, was obsessed with her own health and distrusted doctors, often administering harmful treatments she believed would heal her patients. Despite admitting to the killings during her trial, she claimed they were mistakes rather than crimes and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. The youngest victim was an 11-year-old girl, and the oldest was a 72-year-old woman, with no clear motive beyond Jeanneret's professed love for her patients.
