Abstract

This article focuses on recent legal developments in sports and education. It details a class action lawsuit against the NCAA challenging restrictions on college tennis players accepting prize money without losing eligibility, with a trial anticipated in summer 2026; the case reflects broader judicial scrutiny of NCAA compensation rules following prior landmark decisions. Additionally, a Pennsylvania Catholic high school, Bishop McCort Catholic Academy, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging that public school members of the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference conspired to exclude faith-based schools by changing membership rules, raising constitutional claims of religious discrimination and equal protection. Despite a membership renewal vote including the Catholic schools, the lawsuit remains active, highlighting tensions over religious schools’ participation in public athletic leagues. The article also announces Logan Phillip’s appointment as General Counsel for the Big 12 Conference, where she will oversee legal, compliance, and commercial matters. Extracted from the article
