Abstract
This article focuses on the challenges of recruiting and retaining female law enforcement officers in nine police departments in a southern U.S. state amid broader staffing and cultural issues following high-profile police-related deaths. It analyzes interviews with female personnel to explore difficulties in attracting new female recruits, retaining experienced officers, and their workplace experiences. The study situates these challenges within the context of declining police applications and retention problems nationwide.
