Abstract
This article discusses the development of housing policy in Japan and its impact on urban settlements. It focuses on two types of housing projects: "new towns" on the outskirts of metropolitan areas and collective housing with condominiums/apartment buildings in urban areas. The article highlights the challenges faced by these housing projects, such as population decline and unbalanced concentration of resources. It also explores the segregation that occurs within these communities based on income and other factors. The article emphasizes the need for better housing data and understanding of how people use their housing in order to address these issues effectively. [Extracted from the article]
