Abstract
Zimbabwe is facing a concerning decline in population growth rates, which could hinder its economic recovery and industrial expansion. The Zimbabwe Statistical Agency (ZimStat) projects a decrease in fertility rates among women, partly due to increased contraceptive use and policies aimed at keeping pregnant teenagers in school. While these policies reflect progressive social measures, they may have economic repercussions. The decline in fertility rates, coupled with potential outmigration, poses challenges to sustaining population growth and economic development. This could limit market size, constrain economic expansion, and strain social welfare systems. Strategic planning, policies promoting economic resilience and inclusivity, and investments in education and healthcare infrastructure are essential to mitigate the adverse effects of declining birth rates.
