Abstract
The article examines research on how humor impacts perceptions of female leaders in public presentation contexts, such as TED talks and startup pitches. It finds that women who use humor are perceived as both warm and competent, helping them overcome the common warmth–competence double bind that often limits women's influence. In analyses of over 2,400 TED talks and more than 200 startup pitches, funnier women were rated more positively and had greater success than less humorous women and comparably funny men. The research suggests that humor, when authentic and contextually appropriate, can help female leaders break gender stereotypes and enhance their social influence and professional outcomes.
