Abstract

This article reviews *The Anthem Companion to Raymond Boudon*, a collection of eight chapters by ten scholars examining the work of sociologist Raymond Boudon, with a focus on his methodological individualism (MI) and extended rationality. The volume explores Boudon's approach to explaining social phenomena through individual actions and reasons, addressing both the strengths and limitations of MI in accounting for social structures, beliefs, values, and social mobility. Contributors analyze Boudon's efforts to reconcile normative and descriptive beliefs, the role of context in rationality, and his critique of contemporary critical sociology’s structural determinism. The Companion also highlights applications of Boudon's sociology in education, radicalization, and conspiracy theories, underscoring his lasting influence as a classical sociologist who emphasized individual agency within social analysis.
