Abstract
This article focuses on Antoinette Fauve-Chamoux’s influential contributions to comparative family history and historical demography over more than four decades. As a Maître de conférences at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), she pioneered the “new family history” approach, emphasizing systematic comparative and gender-sensitive analyses of family structures, inheritance, and demographic behavior from the early modern period to the twentieth century. Fauve-Chamoux’s extensive international collaborations, leadership roles—including Secretary General of the International Commission for Historical Demography—and scholarly publications have significantly shaped interdisciplinary research on family systems, social reproduction, and demographic regimes. Her work has also fostered academic exchange and training, notably through her long-standing ties with Babes-Bolyai University in Romania. [Extracted from the article]
