Abstract
The article focuses on the health risks and rising use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) among youth, particularly in the Philippines, where despite existing regulations, a significant portion of adolescents engage in e-cigarette use. It highlights adverse health effects such as headaches, anxiety, and coughing linked to e-cigarette consumption, aligning with the World Health Organization's stance on their harm. The article emphasizes the need for tailored national policies, increased research funding, enhanced health education, and evidence-based interventions to address this issue. Additionally, it suggests exploring the role of religion and spirituality in promoting healthy behaviors among predominantly Christian Filipino youth as a potential protective factor. The author calls for long-term strategies and culturally sensitive approaches to mitigate the health challenges posed by e-cigarettes, especially in countries with fragile health systems.
