Abstract
The article focuses on educational approaches aimed at increasing police officers' awareness of racial discrimination, advocating for a broader human rights-based understanding beyond formal non-discrimination principles. It explores competencies grounded in neo-Aristotelian virtue ethics to promote proactive, empathetic engagement with marginalized groups. The article also proposes a framework for training that addresses officers as whole persons, encouraging the development of virtues to understand and build caring relationships with affected communities. An example of a tested educational format incorporating civil society perspectives is presented to illustrate this approach.
