Abstract
This article focuses on a study investigating muscle activation and strength asymmetries in Paralympic powerlifting (PP) athletes conducted by researchers at the Federal University Sergipe. The study assessed twelve elite PP athletes using surface electromyography (sEMG) and static strength indicators before and after a training protocol involving five sets of five repetitions at 80% of one-repetition maximum. Results showed small levels of asymmetry in muscle activation and strength, particularly in the non-dominant pectoral muscles, with training adaptations tending to reduce these asymmetries. The research suggests that PP athletes exhibit minimal asymmetry before and after training sessions, indicating effective neuromuscular adaptation.
