Abstract
Australia is expected to win the bid to host the Rugby League World Cup in 2026, after the original host, France, pulled out due to financial reasons. The decision was made during a meeting of international powerbrokers in Singapore. While it is uncertain if Australia's bid will include games in nearby Pacific nations and New Zealand, most of the tournament will be held in Australia. The World Cup will be on a smaller scale than originally planned, with only 10 teams participating instead of 16. The remaining two spots will be filled through qualifying tournaments.
