Abstract

When Mickey Mantle ended Game 3 of the 1964 World Series with a walk-off home run off the St. Louis Cardinals' Barney Schultz, the nine-year-old me didn't lament that the game took just two hours and 16 minutes. And when Reggie Jackson climaxed the first World Series I ever covered in 1977 with three home runs in Game 6, the last thing I thought about on the drive home from Yankee Stadium was the time of the game - just two hours and 18 minutes.
