Abstract

This article analyzes George A. Romero's 1975 film *The Amusement Park*, restored by the George A. Romero Foundation and IndieCollect, highlighting its use of horror to critique societal treatment of the elderly. Unlike Romero's earlier *Night of the Living Dead* (1968), which employs a siege motif in a rural setting to explore social anxieties and racial tensions, *The Amusement Park* situates its allegory in a public amusement park, portraying modern life as a hostile, mechanized environment that marginalizes aging individuals. The film uses surreal and satirical elements to depict ageism, social alienation, and intergenerational conflict, culminating in a cyclical narrative that reflects the oppressive routines faced by the elderly. The article situates Romero's work within broader horror film criticism, noting the genre's evolution toward political and social commentary by the 1970s.
