Abstract
This article focuses on research from Macau University of Science & Technology examining tourists' transformative experiences (TE) within hospitality and tourism management. The study addresses gaps in existing TE research, particularly the lack of embodied dimensions, by conducting a quantitative systematic literature review to identify research trends and theoretical shortcomings. Findings indicate that volunteer tourism is a prominent context for transformative experiences, which are primarily socio-psychological but also encompass behavioral, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. The research proposes a framework with future questions to guide theoretical and methodological development in understanding tourists' transformative experiences.
