Abstract

The article discusses the life of Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, highlighting his efforts to promote physical activity and sports in French schools. Despite his contributions to the Olympics, Coubertin's legacy is marred by his refusal to allow female athletes to compete and his colonialist and racist views. His ambivalent character is further exemplified by his belief in "superior" and "inferior" races. Coubertin passed away in 1937, with his heart buried in Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the Games.
