Abstract

The city of Oakland has agreed to sell its stake in the stadium where the Oakland Athletics baseball team has played since 1968. The city is selling its share of the complex to the African American Sports & Entertainment Group for a minimum of $105 million. The group plans to use the site for residential and commercial purposes. The sale will help offset a projected budget deficit and prevent layoffs. This comes after the city lost other major professional sports teams, including the Golden State Warriors and the Raiders. The A's will play at a minor league field until their new ballpark in Las Vegas is ready in 2028. The team's owner, John Fisher, will still control the other half of the stadium site. The African American Sports & Entertainment Group has been working on a 10,000-seat stadium and has expressed interest in a WNBA franchise and an NFL expansion team. [Extracted from the article]
