Abstract
This article focuses on a systematic literature review examining the occupational health and well-being of stable staff and trainers within the thoroughbred horse racing industry. It highlights the challenging working conditions characterized by long hours, limited time off, and a hierarchical workplace structure with trainers at the top. The review identifies key issues such as workforce shortages, poor training, limited career progression, and the prioritization of horse health over worker safety, which contribute to physical injuries and mental health challenges among stable workers. The article also emphasizes the need for future research using validated tools and intervention designs to address these occupational risks and improve support systems, particularly for migrant staff.
