Abstract
Researchers at Harvard Medical School conducted a study on the association between low energy availability indicators (LEA-I) and race performance and medical encounters during the Boston Marathon. The study found that athletes with LEA-I had worse race times and higher risk of medical encounters compared to those without LEA-I. This research highlights the negative impact of problematic low energy availability on marathon athletes' performance and health outcomes. The study was funded by various organizations and has been peer-reviewed for publication in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. [Extracted from the article]
