Abstract
This article focuses on a study examining elite ice hockey coaches' perceptions of their role in supporting athlete mental health. Conducted by researchers at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, the study involved interviews with five coaches of 16- to 20-year-old players who participated in a mental health and suicide awareness program. Findings indicate that coaches see their responsibilities as integrating mental health awareness into daily coaching, recognizing signs of distress, assessing risk, and referring athletes to professionals when needed. The research highlights coaches as pivotal in fostering a sport environment that prioritizes well-being alongside performance. [Extracted from the article]
