Abstract

David Rubenstein, co-founder of The Carlyle Group, has recently become the owner of the Baltimore Orioles baseball club. Rubenstein, who has made a fortune in private equity, saw this venture as an opportunity to give back to his hometown of Baltimore. To acquire the team, Rubenstein assembled a group of investors, including Michael Arougheti of Ares Capital Management and Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. Rubenstein acknowledges that owning a sports team requires a significant time commitment, but he is enthusiastic about the opportunity.
