Abstract
California's Senate race is highly competitive, with Democratic congressman Adam Schiff as the frontrunner. However, the race has been disrupted by the candidacy of Republican Steve Garvey, a former baseball player who voted for Donald Trump. California's "top two" system allows the top two vote-getters, regardless of party, to advance to the general election, giving Garvey a chance to make the November runoff. The race has also seen significant spending on ads, with Schiff spending an estimated $7.5 million and a super PAC opposing Katie Porter spending $10 million. [Extracted from the article]
