Abstract

The article from Canada's History discusses the pioneering efforts of Toronto's female baseball players who were the first to play under lights in the city. Despite initial skepticism from baseball purists and sports editors, women's softball games at Sunnyside Stadium drew large crowds and became a popular spectacle. The stadium became the first in Toronto to have permanent lights in 1930, marking a significant milestone in the history of night games in the city. The success of these night games paved the way for both amateur and professional male ballplayers to eventually play under lights in Toronto. [Extracted from the article]
