Abstract
With respect to the Piacenza Liver, Riva does not mention that some Etruscan deities were emphasized in certain regions of Etruria and minimally recognized in others. Riva's reflective, and at times reflexive, book is an interesting addition to other basic introductory texts dedicated to Etruscan society (e.g., C. Smith, I The Etruscans: A Very Short Introduction i [Oxford 2014]). For example, Riva considers the use of "Orientalizing" (64-5) to characterize the eighth-seventh centuries B.C.E. in Etruria. While Riva does not choose to mention the visual representation of the equine organs, she does connect the tomb's sarcophagus with other later alabaster sarcophagi from the fourth-third centuries B.C.E. Chapter 6 concludes with a brief illustration of the political dynamics at play throughout Etruria. [Extracted from the article]
