Abstract

The article focuses on the impact of automated player-tracking technology on performance analysis in team sports, particularly hockey. It discusses a study by Cunniffe and colleagues that examines the relationship between locomotor activity and phases of play in hockey, highlighting both interesting findings and significant methodological flaws. The study's limited classification of phases, which accounted for only 34% of match time, raises concerns about its scientific rigor and relevance to broader applications in sports analysis. The article suggests that a more comprehensive approach to categorizing match activities could enhance the study's findings and their applicability to coaching and performance evaluation.
