Abstract
This article presents a bibliometric analysis of sports tourism research, examining its origins, key themes, scientific progress, and future directions using the Biblioshiny tool in R. The study identifies four main research clusters: sport tourist behaviors, sustainable and economic development, sports events and destination image, and active sport-event travel career progression. It highlights the growing scholarly interest since the early 2000s, with significant contributions from countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and emphasizes the role of mega and small sports events in promoting sustainable tourism development. The analysis also underscores emerging topics such as climate change, public attitudes, and decision-making in sports tourism, while calling for further research on the comparative impacts of different event scales and the integration of sustainability in sport tourism practices.
