Abstract
Willie Mays, a legendary baseball player, passed away at the age of 93. He began his career with the Birmingham Black Barons in Alabama's Rickwood Field, the oldest ballpark in the country. Mays was known for his exceptional athleticism and is best remembered for "The Catch" in the 1954 World Series. He faced challenges as a Black player in a segregated America, but his talent and perseverance made him a trailblazer. The recognition of Negro League players as major leaguers and the addition of their statistics to the record books serve as a reminder of the injustices they faced. Rickwood Field, where Mays started his journey, holds historical significance as a site of both segregation and progress. [Extracted from the article]
