Abstract

The article focuses on Buddy Bell's experience managing epilepsy throughout his distinguished six-decade career in Major League Baseball (MLB). Despite being diagnosed with epilepsy in his early twenties, Bell played over 2,400 games and was a five-time All-Star, often choosing to keep his condition private due to concerns about how teammates might perceive him. He reflects on missed opportunities to share his struggles and the importance of raising awareness about epilepsy, a neurological disorder affecting approximately 50 million people worldwide. After retiring from his role as vice president and senior advisor to the general manager with the Cincinnati Reds in 2023, Bell hopes to inspire others by discussing his journey and advocating for those with epilepsy.
