Abstract

The article focuses on a study examining the perceptions of club staff and elite athletes regarding the attributes necessary for Australian Football League (AFL) athletes to be deemed "ready" for team selection. Conducted at Deakin University in Geelong, Australia, the research involved semi-structured interviews with 12 staff members and nine athletes from one AFL club. Findings indicate that both physical and psychological attributes are crucial for readiness, with staff and athletes agreeing on the importance of being healthy and injury-free. The study aims to provide clarity for athletes on the expectations for selection, potentially benefiting teams across the league. [Extracted from the article]
