Abstract

The article focuses on the Texas Business Court’s April 2, 2026 ruling in the dispute between the Dallas Mavericks (NBA) and the Dallas Stars (NHL) over control of the American Airlines Center (AAC). The court held that the Mavericks lawfully redeemed the Stars’ fifty percent interest in their joint venture, Center Operating Company, LP (COC), because the Stars breached their contractual “Location Commitment” by relocating their team offices outside Dallas, while the Mavericks maintained theirs in Dallas. The ruling grants the Mavericks legal control over COC and AAC, though future settlement remains possible. Additionally, the article summarizes a federal court’s dismissal of an age discrimination lawsuit filed by former Major League Baseball scouts against MLB and its clubs, where the court found insufficient jurisdictional basis and lack of plausible joint employer allegations to proceed with the claims.
