Abstract
This article investigates the relationship between personal values, basic psychological needs, and well-being among players of Battle Royale (BR) video games, using Self-Determination Theory (SDT) as a framework. The study, based on a sample of 303 BR gamers, found that players’ satisfaction of the psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness significantly predicted their life satisfaction, with relatedness mediating the link between intrinsic value orientation and well-being. Frequent engagement with BR games was associated with greater satisfaction of autonomy and relatedness needs, while a preference for BR games related to competence and autonomy needs. The findings suggest that BR gaming behavior and preferences influence psychological need fulfillment and well-being, though the association between values and life satisfaction varies depending on players’ BR gaming experience.
