Abstract
The article focuses on Stellantis' patent for an Active Sound Enhancement (ASE) system designed to simulate internal combustion engine (ICE) sounds in electric vehicles (EVs). The patent, filed with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), addresses the challenge of low noise levels in EVs that may reduce pedestrian awareness and alter the characteristic sound of muscle or high-performance cars. The ASE system uses sensor technology and signal processing to generate engine sounds that correspond to motor speed, acceleration, and wheel speed. Additionally, an Active Vibration Enhancement (AVE) system recreates vibrations typical of traditional ICE vehicles to enhance the driving experience.
