Abstract

The article discusses the development of a four-legged robot by researchers at ETH Zürich that can autonomously play badminton by volleying a shuttlecock. This robot is designed with a quick-moving racket arm and is trained to mimic human-like movements, such as tracking the shuttlecock midair and returning to the center of the court after each hit. During tests against amateur human opponents, the robot demonstrated its capabilities by successfully hitting a streak of 10 shots in a single rally, indicating its potential for participation in recreational sports, although it is not yet at the level of professional players.
