Abstract
This article focuses on the phenomenon of inadvertent doping violations caused by drug transfer during intimate moments, as addressed within the World Anti-Doping Code. It explains that athletes can avoid sanctions if they prove no fault or negligence by demonstrating verified contamination circumstances, identifying the contamination source (usually a partner), and showing the violation was unintentional. The article highlights the critical role of segmental hair testing in distinguishing incidental exposure from intentional use and discusses documented cases where athletes successfully used this "sex defence." Despite limited experimental data on drug transfer via saliva, skin, or seminal fluid, existing micro-dosing studies and case evidence support the plausibility of such contamination, though controlled studies are needed for quantitative validation.
