Abstract

The article focuses on the tradition of circuses sending holiday greeting cards to their employees, friends, and acquaintances, highlighting their variety in format and design. It features a notable example: a large 17" x 20" wall calendar issued by Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in December 1946, with artwork by Bill Bailey and a calendar for 1947 that coincidentally matches the 2025 calendar. This calendar was signed and distributed by Merle Evans, the circus's longtime bandleader, and is part of the Tegge Circus Archives collection. These greeting cards, originally meant as temporary seasonal greetings, have become valued collectibles over time.
