Abstract
The article focuses on the declining prominence of the Preakness Stakes, the second race in horse racing's Triple Crown series, due to top trainers increasingly skipping it to rest their horses for the Belmont Stakes. Historically, Derby winners almost always competed in the Preakness, but recent changes in training practices have led to fewer entries from leading horses, diminishing national interest and television viewership. The article suggests that adjusting the Preakness schedule by pushing it back by a week or two could help attract more top competitors and revive the race's significance, despite traditionalists’ concerns about preserving the Triple Crown’s historic timing.
