Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the psychological distress experienced by former elite Australian rugby league players, particularly in relation to their concerns about brain health following concussions. Conducted with 235 participants, the research found that 29.8% were very worried about the effects of past concussions on their cognitive abilities, and nearly 30% reported moderate to severe levels of depression, anxiety, or stress. Key predictors of psychological distress included the number of lifetime concussions, a history of depression, lower resilience, and significant worry about concussion history. The study suggests that a multimodal treatment approach could improve the psychological health and quality of life for these athletes. [Extracted from the article]
