Abstract

This article focuses on a study conducted in Brisbane, Australia, examining volunteer coaches' perceptions of delivering on-field mental health and wellbeing workshops within a junior rugby league youth sports development program. Funded by the Australian Sports Commission and conducted by Griffith University, the research found that coaches with more than 10 years of experience reported greater benefits, enjoyment, and confidence in delivering these workshops compared to less experienced coaches. All coaches, regardless of experience, viewed the workshops as beneficial, acceptable, and credible for players. The study highlights the importance of considering coaching experience when integrating mental health programs into youth sports. [Extracted from the article]
