Abstract
This study investigated the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries, pain perception, and physical activity levels among Brazilian practitioners of functional fitness (FF) and traditional strength training (ST). Results showed that FF practitioners reported a higher prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly in the axial skeleton, compared to ST practitioners who had more injuries in the lower limbs. FF participants also engaged in higher weekly physical activity (≥300 minutes) than ST participants. Pain perception was significantly associated with injury presence, and clinical follow-up with medical or physical therapy was identified as a protective factor against injuries. The study highlights an association between FF practice and increased injury prevalence, suggesting the need for improved injury prevention strategies in FF while acknowledging its higher physical activity benefits.
