Abstract
This study examines the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and clinical recovery time following concussion in adolescent student athletes from nine high schools in Maine, USA. Schools were classified as higher or lower SES based on the Area of Deprivation Index and the percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunches. While no significant differences were found in time to return to school, adolescents from lower SES schools took longer to receive medical clearance to return to sports compared to those from higher SES schools. The findings suggest potential disparities in healthcare resources between schools serving different SES populations, warranting further research into underlying factors and broader SES indicators.
