Abstract

Fenerbahce Futbol AS, a football club in Istanbul, is considering withdrawing from Turkey's top league after its players were attacked by rival fans during a match. The incident, which involved a spectator brandishing a knife, has further damaged the image of Turkish sports. Fenerbahce will hold a meeting to discuss the possibility of leaving the league. Twelve fans have been detained, and 38 others involved in the incidents will also be detained. The potential withdrawal would impact TV broadcasting rights holder BeIN Sports, as many of its subscribers are Fenerbahce fans. The value of the Super Lig, Turkey's top division, has declined in recent years due to lack of success in Europe and absence of large sponsorships. Turkish football has a history of violence, including attacks on referees and fans. [Extracted from the article]
