Abstract

This article examines the effects of play through adapted sports (AS) on the motor and social skills of primary school children, comparing cooperative (CE) and competitive (CPE) approaches. Using a quasi-experimental design with 50 students aged around 7.6 years, the study found that both approaches improved motor skills, but only the cooperative approach significantly enhanced social skills across multiple domains measured by the Social Interaction Skills Questionnaire (CHIS). The cooperative approach fostered collaboration, communication, and empathy, while the competitive approach improved motor performance but showed declines in some social skill areas. These findings highlight the importance of integrating both cooperative and competitive strategies in physical education to support holistic development in children.
