Abstract
Retired NFL quarterback Eli Manning, through his company Brand Velocity Group, is interested in purchasing a minority stake in an NFL team. This interest comes as the NFL is considering allowing private equity firms to own minority stakes in franchises. Manning believes that the high valuations of NFL teams limit the number of people who can afford ownership. Other star athletes, such as Michael Jordan and Alex Rodriguez, have also pursued ownership of sports franchises. Manning already has a minority stake in a women's soccer team and is a partner in Brand Velocity Group, which focuses on sports and consumer brands. The NFL has been hesitant to allow private equity ownership, while over 60 sports teams in North America are backed by private equity firms. [Extracted from the article]
