Abstract

Willie Mays, a legendary baseball player known as the "Say Hey Kid," passed away peacefully at the age of 93. Mays' iconic catch during the 1954 World Series against the Cleveland Indians made a lasting impact on fans, inspiring countless children to imitate the play. As one of America's first Black crossover stars, Mays broke barriers and helped to change perceptions of Black athletes. His talent and presence transcended prejudice, and he was recognized with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Mays' passing was met with a standing ovation and chants of his name at a tribute in Birmingham, Alabama. [Extracted from the article]
