Abstract
This article focuses on the 1954 Omaha University Indians football team, the first Nebraska team to win a bowl game by defeating Eastern Kentucky 7-6 in the Tangerine Bowl on January 1, 1955. The Tangerine Bowl, a charity event supporting disabled children, invited smaller college teams and was held in Orlando, Florida. The article highlights the challenges Omaha fans faced traveling to the game, the team's historic victory, and contrasts it with the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers' simultaneous Orange Bowl appearance. It also notes the absence of Black players on the 1954 Omaha team amid broader racial exclusion issues in college bowl games during that era, which changed for Omaha University in the 1960s.
