Abstract

The article focuses on Sallo Polak, a Dutch humanitarian and founder of the Philanthropy Connections Foundation (PCF), and his mission to support under-resourced communities in Southeast Asia. Polak's journey began with a desire to address global inequities, leading him to switch from medicine to documentary filmmaking and eventually to humanitarian work in Laos and Thailand. Since its establishment in 2011, PCF has become a vital resource for tens of thousands in Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar, emphasizing community-driven development and local empowerment without engaging in "voluntourism." Notably, PCF's mother tongue-based multilingual education initiative aids children from ethnic communities in northern Thailand, helping them transition to Thai-language instruction.
